Counter Pay

Counter Pay is the in-store QR customers scan to pay your Torque Business. They enter the amount after scan; Torque routes payment automatically. Print from Business Settings → Payments → Counter Pay QR, mount the sticker, then complete a small test payment before go-live.

Open the printer in-app: Business Settings → Payments → Counter Pay QR.

Not This Guide

  • Fixed-amount request or invoice links
  • Hosted product checkout (Checkout SDK)
  • Personal Share QR (/@username)

For product checkout on your site, see Checkout.

Before You Print

Ready when…Detail
Business activeTorque Business is active (not suspended).
Can receiveWallet linked and able to accept payments.
Store nameName on the sticker matches the store customers expect.
Store vs pay pointsOne whole-store code, or one code per register (pay points).
Mount locationCash wrap, stand, or window ready for the sticker.

Fix gaps before posting — a code that cannot receive looks broken to customers.

Get Your QR

  1. Open app.torque.fi → Business Settings → Payments → Counter Pay QR (deep link: section=counterPay).
  2. Use Default (whole store), or add a pay point per register.
  3. Print 4×6, Download PNG, or Copy Pay Link.
  4. Reprint anytime if a sticker is damaged or a pay point changes.

After customers scan

  1. Scan opens Torque Pay for your business.
  2. Customer enters the amount and pays from their unified balance.
  3. You do not pick a network or token for them — Torque routes automatically.

Print Specifications

SpecRequirement
Error correctionH (≈30%) — default on Torque stickers
Quiet zoneKeep the white margin around the QR; do not crop to the dots
Resolution300 dpi or higher; prefer the official sticker or PNG over a phone screenshot
FileHigh-quality PNG from Torque, or print the branded sticker layout directly
ColorBlack modules on white for print (screen theme may differ)

Default Torque sticker: 4×6 in portrait sticker paper, scale 100%, margins off, headers/footers off.

Do not

  • Stretch, skew, or round the QR into a non-square
  • Cover the center logo / avatar with stickers or tape
  • Print from a blurry photo of another sticker
  • Shrink below the size table for your viewing distance

Size by scanning distance

PlacementDistanceMin QR side
Close counter / tip jar0.2–0.6 m~5 cm (≈2 in)
Normal cashier (Torque 4×6 sticker)~0.5–1 m~8–10 cm (QR ≈ 3.3 in on 4×6)
Standing queue / farther sign1–2 m+Scale up; larger standee or tablet display

Materials

MaterialNotes
Sticker paper (vinyl / waterproof)Best for cash wrap — Torque default
Laminated paperFine indoors; avoid heavy glare
Acrylic / PVC standGood upright display; avoid reflections under spotlights
Window clingUse larger size; test scan through glass

Placement

  1. Height — eye level for a standing customer, or easy phone height on the counter (not flat on a low shelf facing the ceiling).
  2. Light — bright and even; avoid glare, sun bounce, or deep shadow on the code.
  3. Clear path — nothing overlapping the quiet zone (receipt spikes, card readers, plants, tape).
  4. Stable — fixed stand or firmly stuck; wobbling codes fail mid-scan.
  5. Clean — wipe weekly; replace when faded, torn, or dirty enough that modules blur.
  6. One primary code per register — extra old stickers confuse staff and customers.

Branding On The Sticker

ElementRole
Torque mark + nameShows how to pay
Business nameConfirms the right store
Owner @handle (if shown)Trust / identity cue
“Scan to pay with Torque”Primary CTA
/pay/… pathBackup if the QR is damaged
  • Do not replace “Scan to pay with Torque” with unrelated payment logos on the same QR face.
  • Do not crop Torque branding off the official sticker layout.
  • Optional table tent or window sign can add hours or “Ask staff for help” — keep the QR face uncluttered.

Test Payment (Required)

  1. Mount the final print in its real location (not only on a desk under perfect light).
  2. Open the camera or Torque scan on a second phone.
  3. Complete a small real payment (or a known test amount from the owner’s personal Torque wallet).
  4. Confirm funds show as received for the business.
  5. If scan fails: enlarge, reprint, fix lighting, or re-download — do not leave a failing code up.

FAQ

Where do I print my store QR?

In the Torque app: Business Settings → Payments → Counter Pay QR. Use Print 4×6, Download PNG, or Copy Pay Link.

Do customers enter the amount?

Yes. Counter Pay is an open-amount code. Fixed totals use request or invoice links instead.

What paper size should I use?

4×6 inch portrait sticker paper, scale 100%, with headers and footers off. Keep the white quiet zone around the QR.

What if I archive a pay point?

Existing stickers for that pay point stop working. Print a new sticker for the default store code or a new pay point immediately.

How is this different from Checkout?

Checkout embeds product checkout on your site (Checkout SDK). Counter Pay is the physical in-store sticker for open-amount counter payments.
